Germany vital for European smart grid future- study

The European market for smart metering systems will deliver a strong performance in the coming five years, according to research from Berg Insight. Electricity distribution network operators and power suppliers will invest around EUR 15.8 billion by 2017 in the deployment of 110 million smart meters. Between 2011 and 2017, the installed base of smart electricity meters in Europe is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 20.5 percent to reach 154.7 million units at the end of the period.
