Germany's Aigner urges more mobile app security

German consumer affairs minister Ilse Aigner said smartphone and mobile phone application providers should do much more for security, Online-Kosten.de reported. She said many smartphone apps capture data that is not necessary for their purpose , and cited the case of a popular pocket torch app that captures the location of the handset and its ID. She referred to a warning from the Federal Information Technology Security Agency (BSI) that WhatsApp had been hacked and could be used for identity theft. She also referred to a study by Marburg and Hanover universities that found more than 1,000
