Oliver Sueme has been appointed the next chairman of Eco, Germany’s association for the internet industry, after being unanimously elected by Eco members during a general meeting on 24 November. Sueme will replace Felix Hoeger, Eco’s longtime chairman of 17 years who will serve as the association’s honorary president going forward. Klaus Landefeld, currently Eco’s head of Infrastructure and Networks, was voted in as deputy chairman.

Sueme said his most important task as chairman will be to increase trust in the internet industry and digital technologies in Germany and lead a constructive dialogue on the opportunities of technology in light of a growing skepticism among the German public and politicians towards digitization.

Eco members also voted in favor of a charter amendment to create a new advisory committee and expand its management board, naming Alexander Rabe, the current head of Eco’s office in Berlin, as co-managing director along with current director Harald Summa.
