Germany's top court upholds law abolishing Wi-Fi provider liability

Friday 27 July 2018 | 14:31 CET | News
Internet users in Germany who operate publicly open Wi-Fi networks are no longer liable for copyright infringements like illegal uploads of music or films committed on their Wi-Fi network by other parties, ruled Germany's Federal Supreme Court (BGH). The court ruled that the operator of five public, unprotected Wi-Fi networks in Germany could not be held responsible for copyright infringements committed by a third party who illegally uploaded a computer game onto a file-sharing network for further downloads.
