Globacom asks govt to deal with high interconnect rates, tax

Nigerian operator Globacom said the government should deal with the high interconnect rates and multiple taxations that it says have hit the telecoms sector as a matter of urgency, ThisDayLive reported. COO Mohamed Jameel warned that if conscious steps were not taken to save the medium and small players in the GSM category, their fate might soon follow the trend in the CDMA category, where operators have been sapped by heavy interconnect charges paid to the dominant player.
