Global PC shipments to shrink 2.7% this year - study

IDC has improved its full-year outlook for worldwide PC shipments to negative growth of 2.7 percent, from its previous forecast of a negative 3.7 percent, according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. Around 306.7 million PCs are expected to shift this year, compared to 315.1 percent the year before. For 2018, IDC is forecasting for 291.9 unit shipments. Shipments slipped only 0.5 percent in the third quarter, but most regions and market participants saw this as a short-term gain rather than as a sign of stronger growth in the medium or long-term.
