Global smartphone sales up 5.4% in Q3 led by Chinese vendors

Chinese vendors Huawei, Oppo and BBK helped push global smartphone shipments to 373.3 million in the third quarter, up 5.4 percentage points year on year following annual increases of 4.3 percent and 3.9 percent in the previous two quarters. The latest data from Gartner revealed that Huawei is fast catching up on Samsung and Apple, with Samsung suffering its worst ever decline in smartphone sales in the quarter after the recall of its failed Galaxy Note 7 phablet saw it decline 14.2 percent year on year. The Korean company's share of the global smartphone market fell to 19.2 percent in Q3,
