Global tablet shipments fell for the tenth consecutive quarter in the first three months of the year, declining 8.5 percent year on year to 36.2 million, according to a report from IDC. The market for classic 'slate' tablets, without a dedicated keyboard, continues to plummet, with devices offering a first-party keyboard, which IDC refers to as detachable tablets, continuing to grow for the most part. In terms of vendors, Apple declined for the 13th consecutive quarter but remained market leader with 8.7 million tablets sold and 24.6 percent of unit shipments in Q1. Samsung remained in
