Global wearables sales slow to 1.2% in Q1 - IDC

The global wearables market grew by just 1.2 percent to 25.1 million units in the first 3 months of 2018, well down on the 18 percent year on year rise posted a year earlier, according to a report from IDC. The slowdown is due in part to a 9.2 percent decline in shipments of basic wearables that don't run third-party apps. Higher-priced smart wearables from companies such as Apple, Fitbit and fashion brands, however, grew by 28.4 percent year on year, reflecting a consumer shift toward smarter devices.
