Google, others seek authorisation to publish FISA requests

Google chief legal officer David Drummond has written to the US Attorney General and FBI director to ask them to make it possible for the company to publish in its Transparency Report the full number of national security requests, including Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) requests, and the amount of accounts affected. Such a move would show that the requests are fewer than suggested in last week's press reports of unfettered access through the PRISM programme suggest, according to Google. Drummond writes that Google has nothing to hide, and transparency will serve the public
