Google receives 12,000 requests for personal data removals

Google has received 12,000 requests from European internet users to be removed from its search engines, the told AFP, confirming a number reported by German weekly Der Spiegel. The 12,000 requests were received by 30 May, the day after Google posted an on-line form for removal requests. The company has indicated no timeframe for the data to be removed. Requests will be considered on a case by case basis and there are criteria. For example, if information is found to be in the public interest, it would be left online. The European Court of Justice ruled that Google had to provide a mechanism
