Google signs contracts for 842 MW of renewable energy

Google has signed agreements to add another 842 MW of renewable energy capacity to power its data centres, wrote senior vice president for technical infrastructure, Urs Hoelzle. The new contracts for wind and solar power, ranging from 10 to 20 years, provide projects with the financial certainty and scale necessary to build the facilities. Google has purchased over 2 GW of renewable energy to date, said to be equivalent to taking nearly 1 million cars off the road. The company has made a commitment to triple its purchases of renewable energy by 2025. Its goal is eventually to power 100
