Google tax bill grows to EUR 1.7 bln with fines - report

The French revenue service will ask Google to pay over EUR 1.7 billion in back taxes, reports Le Canard Enchaine. The satirical weekly reported earlier that the amount would be EUR 1 billion, which did not account for penalties and fines the tax office is seeking from the internet company for allegedly transferring revenues earned in France to its European headquarters in Ireland. The French tax office told Reuters that it does not comment on ongoing investigations. Google insists that it respects the law in every country it operates and that its European sales are run from its central office
