Graphene could speed up internet a hundred times

Tuesday 16 July 2013 | 02:43 CET | News
The use of graphene in telecommunications could accelerate internet speeds by up to a hundred times, according to new research by scientists the University of Bath's Department of Physics. The researchers have demonstrated incredibly short optical response rates using graphene, which could pave the way for a revolution in telecommunications. Currently, when data is sent through optoelectronic devices, the signals are processed using optical switches, which convert signals into a series of light pulses. Ordinarily optical switches respond at rate of a few picoseconds. Through this study
