GSMA backs Safaricom in mobile cash war with Equity

The GSMA has written to the Kenyan authorities warning of the risks that use of slim SIM cards pose to the integrity of mobile telecommunications platforms. According to Business Daily, the GSMA said in its 07 August letter that the the overlay SIM (which is embedded between a normal SIM card and the device) has the potential of harvesting and revealing sensitive data passing the system. The technical opinion risks further delaying Equity Bank's use of the thin SIM to enter the mobile money market via a MVNO.
