The GSMA has issued a statement criticising the decision by Asian countries to propose only 51 MHz of additional spectrum for mobile services at the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference. The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity's Conference Preparatory Group recently held its final meeting to prepare its position for the WRC in October. The GSMA noted that the 51 MHz is less than 5 percent of the total amount of spectrum currently available in the region. This despite the ITU estimating that as much as double the spectrum available today is needed to meet future demand for mobile data services.
