Guatemala to license mobile frequency spectrum by end-2016

The Guatemalan government plans to auction spectrum for the provision of mobile services by the end of 2016, the head of the Presidential Commission on Competitiveness and Investment, Aciscio Valladares, told El Periodico. At the end of 2015, Guatemala had 17.06 million mobile lines, accounting for a penetration rate of 107.2 percent. Currently, spectrum has been allocated only in the 210 MHz band, representing only 16.2 percent of the quantity recommended by the ITU.
