Guyana's GTT to hike fixed line prices by up to 50%

Guyana's Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has given temporary approval to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) to substantially increase its landline rates from 01 August, reports local daily the Guayana Chronicle. Monthly subscription rates are due to rise by 50 percent, from GYD 500 to GYD 750 for a basic residential plan, with rates for intra-exchange calls climbing by 33 percent in peak times. The company's will also increase from GYD500 to GYD2,000 for residential customers and from GYD 1,500 to GYD 4,000 for business users, said the watchdog in a statement.
