High-speed broadband vital for rural Ireland - Minister

Irish Communications Minister Alex White said that the delivery of high-speed broadband to every home, school and business by 2020 will become the most important public investment in rural Ireland. Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois, Minister White said that around 80,000 farms, 94 percent of the total nationwide, will benefit from the Government's National Broadband Plan. He added that 1.3 million homes in Ireland now have access to high-speed broadband, up from 300,000 when the Government came into office in 2011. By end-2016, commercial providers will
