Hispasat launches Spanish digital divide contest

Spanish satellite communications operator Hispasat has launched a competition called 'enREDatupueblo' to reduce the digital divide in the country's rural communities. The contest is open to all localities of less than 500 inhabitants with no or low-quality internet access, with the winning village given one year's free satellite-based broadband, including all installation and maintenance costs, for all residents, homes and businesses. Hispasat added that there are still 2,682 remote towns or villages with no internet or access at speeds below 10 Mbps, including nearly 600,000 homes with
