Hondutel customers down 11% to 379,000 in Q1

Honduran state-owned operator Hondutel ended the first quarter of 2017 with 379,403 customers, down 10.9 percent year on year, reports local daily La Prensa. Fixed telephony customers represented around 91 percent of the base, with fixed internet customers rising to 23,435 and mobile subscribers coming to 12,669. The company's fixed line subscriber base has halved over the past six years and it has also lost 90 percent of its mobile customers over the past 15 months. In total Hondutel posted net profits of HNL 10.5 million in the first quarter of the year, compared to HNL 68.5 million a year
