Huawei opens East Africa training centre in Kenya

Huawei has opened its East Africa Training Centre at its Kenyan head office in Nairobi to enhance skills in new generation computing, telecommunication and related technologies. The new training centre is spacious and easily accessible, with several training rooms and an equipment room. It also has video conference and fast broadband connections, enabling students to use e-labs with remote access.

Huawei Technologies East Africa Head of Learning Services, Peter Thuo, said the centre will increasingly focus on providing training in new services such as 4G, IoT, cloud computing and Software Defined Networks (SDN)/Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV).

It aims to build ICT skills among employees and other players in the sector in the region, and enhance Kenya's leading role in East Africa. The centre is part of the commitment Huawei has made through its MoU with the ICT Authority to building ICT capacity and skills in Kenya. It includes the Seeds for the Future training programme for undergraduate students. Nine of these students attended the launch event to share their experiences duringtheir recent training in China.
