Huawei opens R&D centre in Sophia Antipolis, France

Huawei has opened a European R&D site in Sophia Antipolis, France, where it will focus on chipset design and embedded electronics. Huawei has hired 20 engineers for the new site, most of whom are former researchers of Texas Instruments. The company plans to hire another 10 engineers to reach a staff of 30 by the end of the year. Huawei has been present in France since 2003. Late last year, group CEO and founder Ren Zhengfei announced plans to recruit 170 researchers in France by 2017. Areas of work for the new R&D hub will include building a new image signal processor and improving smartphone
