Huawei to build fibre network for Mauritel

Mauritanian telecom operator Mauritel has launched the Nouakchott-Kobonni cable project to link the capital city with 24 fibre pairs to Kobonni, located 1,000 km away towards the country's border with Mali, reports Agence Nouakchott d'Information. The cable project being undertaken by Chinese telecom equipment group Huawei will deliver 2.5 Gbps inititally, extendible to over 40 Gbps, at a cost of MRO 3 billion (approx EUR 7.72 bln). When it goes live, the backbone will provide ample broadband capacity to the towns and villages along its path. It could also serve as a thoroughfare for mobile
