Hungary mulls sanctions against social media giants

Tuesday 19 January 2021 | 09:20 CET | News
Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga is considering sanctioning social media companies over what she called "systematic abuses" of free speech, according to Reuters. The minister said she would meet the Hungarian competition authority in the week 18-24 January to talk about possible fines for what she described as unfair commercial practices, as well as convene a meeting of the country's digital freedom committee. She said Facebook is limiting the visibility of her posts because she opposes the country's leading party and its agenda.
