Hutchison may sell 1/3 of 3 UK-O2 to private equity - report

Hutchison is in talks with private equity companies on the chance to own up to a third of 3 UK-O2 to help finance the GBP 10.25 billion takeover, writes the Telegraph. The remainder of the operation would be financed with a GBP 6 billion bank loan, with Bank of America Merrill Lynch and HSBC on standby to offer the funds. Hutchison Whampoa is expected to use regulatory scrutiny of its planned acquisition of O2, which would reduce the number of mobile carriers from four to three, to call for a broad market review with the aim of delaying BT's EE acquisition, according to industry experts.
