Telecommunications revenues in the Ibero-American region came to USD 37.2 billion in the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest report issued by regional telecom association OTI. The mobile sector accounted for 54.1 percent of revenues, growing 5.3 percent year on year, followed by fixed telephony and broadband, up 2.7 percent year on year to 30.2 percent of the total, while pay-TV climbed 6.0 percent year on year to account for 15.7 percent of the region’s telecom revenues.

The report added that pay-TV revenues have surged by 49 percent since 2013, easily outstripping broadband (12.3%) and mobile (9.7%), and will continue growing as service penetration keeps increasing across Latin America. However, the impact of cord-cutting in the Latin American pay-TV industry is still limited by the region’s low broadband quality and penetration, said OTI.
