IBM claims quantum computer breakthrough

IBM has announced what it claims are two critical breakthroughs towards the creation of a working quantum computer. For the first time, IBM researchers demonstrated the ability to detect and measure both kinds of quantum errors simultaneously, and also built a new, square quantum bit circuit design. In a statement, the company's research unit clarified that until now it was only possible to address one type of quantum error or the other, but never both at the same time. This step toward quantum error correction is a critical requirement for building a practical and reliable large-scale
