IBM to open smart city R&D center in Sichuan province

IBM, in cooperation with its Chinese partner Sichuan Huaxun Zhongxing Technologies, will deploy a base in southwest China's Sichuan province to research and develop smart cities. These futuristic urban centers will feature computing technology to improve infrastructure and public services, Xinhua reports. The partners plan to invest nearly CNY 30 billion (approximately USD 4.88 billion) in their Global Smart Cities R&D Center, a supporting industrial park and other related projects.
