Icann approves registry agreement for new gTLDs

Icann announced another important step towards launching new global top-level domains. It has approved the Registry Agreement needed to authorise organisations to issue the new names. The agreement creates a Trademark Clearinghouse where trademark holders can protect their rights by registering their protected names, sets up a process to have infringing domain names taken down and regulates how trademark holders can assert claims directly against a registry operator. The new registry operators will be required to have a single point of contact responsible for handling abuse complaints, as
