ICASA criticises communications bill proposals on monopoly grounds

Wednesday 7 March 2018 | 10:08 CET | News
South African regulator ICASA has criticised various aspects of the government's Electronic Communications Amendment Bill, warning among other things that the draft legislation falls foul of the constitutional protection of property rights. ICASA told the Department of Telecommunications at a workshop that the ECA Amendment Bill proposes that unassigned, high-demand spectrum must be allocated to the WOAN, following a policy direction by the minister.
