ICASA pushes for major sporting events to be available free-to-air

South Africa's Department of Communications and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) want major sporting events to be broadcast on free-to-air TV as they are in the 'public interest', BusinessTech reported. In a presentation to Parliament, ICASA said that events like the Olympic games as well as rugby, soccer, netball and cricket world cup tournaments should be shown on free-to-air channels such as SABC and eTV.
