IFT approves 2.5 GHz band for mobile services

Mexican regulator IFT has approved the designation of the 2.5 GHz band for mobile services, in line with ITU agreements. A public consultation earlier this year supported the move. Following the changes to the national spectrum plan, the range 2,500 to 2,690 MHz should be offered in a spectrum tender in 2016. The IFT noted that the spectrum range can be used for both FDD and TDD services, and given the band's use already elsewhere in the world, should not result in costly acquisitions of equipment for operators.
