IFT confirms Televisa not dominant player in pay-TV market

Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has ruled out the existence of a player with substantial power in the market for pay-TV services. The ruling follows an investigation into Televisa's increased market share after its takeover of Telecable. While Televisa did not require IFT clearance for the takeover, the regulator was notified in January 2015 and started an investigation of the transaction. In a preliminary ruling in October 2015, it concluded that Televisa could not be considered a dominant player. This prompted appeals from rivals during the comment period after the
