India operators set to award USD 3 bln in 3G deals - report

Global telecommunication equipment vendors will garner about USD 3 billion in the first wave of 3G roll-outs in India, reports the Economic Times. The six winners of 3G airwaves in India - Vodafone Essar, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Idea Cellular, Aircel and Tata Teleservice - are poised to place equipment contracts in the next 30 days, executives with these companies say. An industry executive with direct knowledge of the development said Vodafone Essar is close to awarding its 3G equipment order with existing vendors, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens, while adding that the deal size
