India smartphone market grows only 5.2% in 2016

Wednesday 15 February 2017 | 08:01 CET | News
India smartphone shipments reached 109.1 million units in 2016, with a marginal 5.2 percent annual growth in the period. In the fourth quarter of 2016, smartphone shipments reached 25.8 million units, almost flat year-on-year, but declining sharply by 20.3 percent over the previous quarter, according to a report from IDC. The report also indicates that this decrease was mainly due to a seasonal decline after an all-time high festival quarter and demonetization in the month of November, which led to relatively lower consumer sales in November and December.
