India to require 'trusted' suppliers on network upgrades from June

The Indian government is updating telecom operator licences to give it more control over the type of network equipment used, in the name of national security. An order from the Department of Telecom says operators with a Unified Access Service License - the general authorisation for all fixed and mobile operators in the country - must use equipment only from 'trusted sources' from 15 June and seek state approval for using any other suppliers.
