Intel axes 1,500 jobs in Costa Rica, relocates to Asia

Chipmaker Intel has cut 1,500 jobs from its assembly and test operation in Costa Rica, the Associated Press reports. Intel will relocate its assembly and test operation to Asia, a move which is in line with the chipmaker's strategy announced earlier this year which aims to stress "geographic closeness between [Intel] plants and main markets". Intel will maintain over 1,200 engineers, finance and human resources employees in Cost Rica.
