Intel unveils 22-core Xeon CPUs at San Francisco event

Intel has announced the launch of a range of new CPUs for the server community that pack up to 22 cores and run at 2.2 GHz, reports the Wall Street Journal. The new 22- and 20-core CPUs are part of the Xeon E5-2600 v4 family and have built-in features that can encrypt data more quickly than prior models as well as a new feature to maximise the use of built-in memory circuitry for the most important tasks. The full range includes 27 CPUs, with the top-end 22-core and 20-core models costing USD 4,115 and USD 3,226 respectively.
