iPlayer to require licence from 01 September

The UK's TV Licensing authority has confirmed that people will need a TV licence from 01 September to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch-up TV, on BBC iPlayer. This will apply to any device and provider they use. Those without a valid licence risk prosecution and a fine of up to GBP 1,000 (up to GBP 2,000 in Guernsey or GBP 500 in Jersey) plus any legal costs and/or compensation.
