IPTV passes DTH to become second-most common pay-TV service

IPTV has overtaken direct-to-home (DTH) satellite as the second-most common form of pay-TV distribution worldwide, after cable, according to research by Kagan. In 2018, IPTV accounted for 23.4 percent of the total market of 1.07 billion households. The market researcher estimates that IPTV subscribers will grow at a compound annual rate of 7 percent over the next five years, second only to pay digital terrestrial television (DTT) with a projected 8.5 percent five-year CAGR.
