Irish govt confirms delay to National Broadband Plan

Ireland's Department of Communications has confirmed a delay to the National Broadband Plan (NBP). The Government said that it would not now be in a position to commence negotiations with short listed bidders as planned in 2016 or to award the NBP contract to the winning bidder or bidders until 2017, several months later than originally planned. In response to the announcement, Eir said that would continue to rollout high speed broadband at pace, claiming that 1.4 million homes and business (60% of premises) across Ireland can now access high-speed broadband.
