ISPA, internet companies criticise UK data retention bill

ISPs and major internet companies and have warned that the UK's proposed data retention legislation needs to be clarified on a number of terms in order to meet its aims. In a submission to the parliamentary consultation on the law, the ISPA lamented the quick process for the legislation, saying more time was needed to scrutinise the details and improve the clarity of key legal requirements. Both the ISPA and a joint submission by Google, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook and Microsoft were concerned about the language on encryption in the bill, and especially the possible requirement for 'backdoors'
