ISPA welcomes opt-in on unsolicited marketing

The Internet Service Providers' Association of South Africa welcomed the finalisation of the Protection of Personal Information Bill by the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development on 5 September. In particular, ISPA welcomed the fact that the Committee voted not to change its position on unsolicited direct marketing to an opt-out position. The ISPA supports the opt-in option, which creates greater control for consumers over their personal information and unsolicited approaches. The provisions relating to direct marketing by means of unsolicited electronic communications
