Italian average broadband speed rises to 5.5 Mbps

Italy has improved its average broadband speed by around 16 percent over the past year to reach 5.5 Mbps, according to the results of Akamai Technologies' State of the Internet report corresponding to the third quarter of 2014. In addition, the country's peak connection speeds increased by around 36 percent year-on-year to reach 25.3 Mbps on average, above all due to the growing popularity of fibre-optic and high-speed ADSL connections. However, the country still lags in 51st position globally, far behind the vast majority of the world's developed nations and most European neighbours such as
