Italian broadband plan to create 172,000 new jobs - study

The Italian government's plan to build a national high-speed fibre-optic broadband network could create up to 172,000 new jobs and increase the country's GDP by one percentage point, according to a study by Rome's Sapienza University presented by Italian communications regulator Agcom. The study, entitled "Assessing the sectoral effects of ICT investments: the case of broadband networks", analyses the medium to long term effects on employment and GDP of the government's broadband strategy, which aims to go beyond the objectives of the digital agenda for Europe and bring high-speed internet at
