Italian court objects to move to add TV licence to bills

Friday 15 April 2016 | 08:58 CET | News
Italy's Council of State, the country's highest administrative court, has raised objections to the move to add the TV licence to household electricity and gas bills. In a review of the corresponding government decree, the Council of State said the measure lacks a definition of what is meant by "TV set" in view of the range of devices now available on the market, including tablets and smartphones that can stream programmes. The court also asked for the decree to be rewritten in a non-technical manner that is understandable by consumers and not just professionals of the sector.
