Italian culture minister denies 'smartphone tax' rumours

Massimo Bray, Italy's culture minister, has denied press rumours that the government is to significantly increase taxes levied on smartphones, tablets and other hi-tech consumer devices. However, he confirmed that the government is currently working on an agreed solution acceptable to all interested parties. The reports suggested that the government was in the process of revising a 2009 decree on "equo compenso" (fair compensation) due to copyright owners for personal copies of digital files.
