Italian e-commerce market to hit 20.5 mln shoppers this year

The Italian e-commerce market has grown to become the fifth largest in Europe, with sales rising 32 percent year on to EUR 19.6 billion in 2016, according to a report by HiPay. Just over a third of the Italian population (around 20.5 million shoppers), buy goods and services online on a regular basis, with 26 percent of all transactions made via mobile devices, including 17 percent via smartphones, up 63 percent year on year. The report added that the e-commerce sector now accounts for 5.0 percent of all retail sales in Italy, up from 4.0 percent last year, with the tourism sector
