Italian e-commerce sales soar by nearly 42% in May

Tuesday 7 July 2020 | 14:49 CET | News
Italy's retail sales rose by 24.3 percent in May compared to the previous month but fell by 10.5 percent on an annual basis due to the closure of businesses nationwide following the coronavirus lockdown. The latest report from national statistics office Istat said the monthly rise was due entirely to a 41.7 percent year on year surge in e-commerce sales, with small-scale shop sales falling 18.8 percent and supermarket sales dropping 4.4 percent.
